Dublin Dolman Gathered Front

Hi there!  It’s me, Sarah, from Sweet Sprocket.  I have a little blog post for you today on the awesome Dublin Dolman pattern. If you follow my blog at all, you know I’m big on confessions in my blog posts. Well, today, my confession is that I’d never sewn up the Dublin Dolman until this week. It was a pattern I’d always admired from afar, but never got around to making.

Can I tell you how much I regret that it took me this long??? This pattern is amazing.

I’m a huge sucker for options and versatility in a pattern. One of my favorite things about New Horizons patterns is all the options you get in one pattern and the Dublin is no exception. You’ll be seeing lots of the different versions on the blog in the coming weeks for an in-depth look at some of the possibilities.

I chose to start with the gathered front version – no bands on the hem or sleeves. This pattern took around 1 yard of fabric and was a super quick sew. It took as long to interface the neckband pieces as it did to sew the whole thing (but don’t skip that part – it’s super important!)

One of the things I’ve learned about sewing for myself and my rather rectangular shaped body is that it helps to have an interesting accent or design feature at the neckline. Sometimes that’s a boatneck or a scoop neck or a v-neck (basically anything other than a plain crew neck t-shirt). This pattern provides all of that and more.

The deep scoop neck comes to a slight v that is flattering on any figure. The gathering in the front makes for a loose fit without looking like a tent. It’s interesting enough to be dressed up but not too stuffy for everyday wear.  

Basically, it’s the perfect top. And with all these options, you can make it perfect for you – whatever the season, or the fabric, or the occasion.
